The Aero Engine Car collection is a tribute to the ingenuity and madness of a handful of men who, at the beginning of the last century, created demonic hybrid machines between planes and cars to push back the limits in their quest to break new speed records.
We offer you a collection of articles inspired by those Magnificent Men in their Racing(Flying) Machines!!
The Argentinian driver Scandroglio, a speed enthusiast like Ernest Eldridge, built a home-made prototype similar to the Fiat Mefistofele, powered by the same Fiat A.12 aircraft engine. He named his car Botafogo, after a breed of Argentinian horse.
The car was difficult to drive and had a hook and a line at the front to try and slow it down if it went off the track.
After Scandroglio's death, the Botafogo disappeared. It is credited with an unofficial top speed of 240 km/h.
